Jan Nielsen
Born on September 21, 1968
Jan graduated from the Danish School of Design in 1995 after higher education at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and School of Visual Arts in New York.
Jan has extensive experience as a partner, creative director and designer at a number of leading design firms. After brief interludes at Eleven Danes and Kontrapunkt, Jan founded the successful 2GD in partnership with Ole Lund in 1996 and ran this firm until 2003 when the firm was amalgamated with 11 Design. Jan remained a partner and creative director until co-founding LOOP Associates in 2007, where Jan remains a partner and creative director.
Jan is the designer of and creatively responsible for the development of major identities and branding systems, exhibitions, packaging design, publications and web design.
As a designer Jan has an analytical approach to problems in their context and in such a process, arguments concerning taste and personal preferences are quickly killed – he sees design as a question of elimination. Jan has the courage that is the seed of all development. He sees content as the driving force and demands that quality exceeds expectation. Jan has been awarded a large number of national and international design prizes and his works have been exhibited and published internationally. Jan also acts as a visiting teacher and lecturer and is a highly sought after jury member at prestigious design competitions.
Jan has carried out a large number of assignments for private and public clients, including but not exclusive to: Banedanmark, Bestseller, Bruuns Bazaar, Carlsberg, Coca-Cola, Coloplast, DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation), EMI, Expo 2008, Foss, Fritz Hansen, Gyldendal, Information, The Ministry of Science, Technology and Development, PBS, Pernod Ricard, Samsung, Sand, SKAT, Skype, Sony, Synoptik, TDC, and The Ministry of Transport and Energy.
